Why is a business license required?


A business license is required by municipal by-law and permits a business to operate within the Township of Spallumcheen. Each business license application is reviewed to ensure compliance with Municipal by-laws.


Obtaining a business license recognizes that the business has been approved to operate and comply with the municipal regulations. Licensing enables the Township to track growth within the Municipality by looking at what types of business are opening.


How do I apply for my business license?


The business license application for must be completed in full and delivered to the Municipal Office with the $100 application fee, payable in cash, debit or cheque to the Township of Spallumcheen.


If the property that the business is being conducted on is not owned by the business license applicant, the Municipality may require a letter from the owner on title acknowledging that the business can operate on the subject property.


How do I pay for my first business license?


The payment of the business license fee is due prior to the license being issued. The business license clerk will call the applicant to advise when the license is approved and available to be picked up. The business license fees can be paid cash, cheque or interact. The Municipal Office does not accept credit cards at this time.


When is the annual renewal of my license due?


A business license renewal invoice is sent out in December prior to the expatriation date of December of the current year. The license needs to be paid in full annually by January 31.


Should your business no longer in operation, please advise the Municipal Office in writing.

What if I rent the property where the business will be located?


A letter from the property owner that is registered on title will be required at the time off application that confirms the business can operate at the subject location.
